Essential moisturisers for dry winter skin

While the thought of winter might conjure up images of snuggling up in front of the TV, treating yourself to cosy comfort food and generally hibernating in your fave onesie, the effects of the harsh weather can be a lot less than sweet, taking its toll on our skin in the process. Fiona Brackenbury, Decleor’s Education Director, is hugely aware of the effect of winter: “We lose half a pint of moisture from our skin a day, and that’s without being blasted with central heating and harsh outside temperatures, which all contribute to depleting moisture levels from within our skin”. As the air is so dry and the humidity levels so low, this can lead to complete evaporation of moisture from the surface of our skin – leading to tight, uncomfortable and flaking complexions. Ouch!

If you want to soothe your skin throughout these chilly months, Fiona says it’s all about locking in hydration. “Your moisturiser needs essential fatty acids to help rebuild the skin barriers and lock in the hydration that is vital to protect your skin during the cold weather”.

With that in mind, we’ve rounded up some of the best moisturisers, each with the hydrating ingredients you need to keep you complexion feeling comfortable, calm, and hydrated – even in the depths of winter.
