Internationally renowned, distinctive British beauty brand Illamasqua are a force to be reckoned with. After launching in 2008, they’ve become known for their creativity with colour and formula, and have defined season after season of fashion week catwalks (we all rushed out to buy bold lipstick hues after seeing the punchy Illamasqua lip colours at the Marta Jakubowski SS19 show).
They hit the mark every time with their stand-out collections, packed with cult products and make-up artist faves, making us want to grab every highlighter, lipstick and primer and add them to our stash quickly, before they sell out.
A bit of background
The brand name combines the words ‘illusion’ and ‘masquerade’, with the magic and drama of the theatre being a main source of inspiration. Created by marketing guru Julian Kynaston, Illamasqua cleverly translates the decadence of theatre land into beautiful, wearable make-up. Kynaston was joined in 2010 by Joseph Corré, the son of Vivienne Westwood, who brought with him a touch of his punk heritage to give the brand even more of an edge. Together, the pair have created a successful beauty brand that’s growing worldwide.
So what makes Illamasqua different?
With a strong sense of personality, the brand challenges conventional beauty ideals, celebrates diversity and aims to inspire individuality with their gorgeous, high-performance make-up.
Melanie Barrese, Head of Education and Training at Illamasqua says ‘we live by the concept of non-confirmative make-up, so we don’t have one idea of what beauty is. Make-up is so unique depending on each person and we have the products to help you create the look you want!’
They’re also proud to be accredited as a ‘cruelty-free brand’ from PETA, the largest animal rights group in the world and are committed to never allowing animal testing on any of their products. Their range boasts over 100 vegan products too.
The cornerstone of Illamasqua’s ethos is personal expression and freedom and they support a number of high profile campaigns and causes including #SmearforSmear, Anti-Bullying Month and the Sophie Lancaster Foundation.
From the award-winning Skin Base Foundation, described by Melanie as ‘a truly an iconic Illamasqua product that gives a real skin finish’, to bestselling Beyond Powder Highlighters and statement lip colours, Illamasqua’s coveted make-up range is one you need to get your hands on fast.
